Philippians 2:25-30
Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier,
but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
For
he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that you
had heard that he had been sick. For indeed he was sick nigh unto death:
but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I
should have sorrow upon sorrow.
I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
Receive
him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in
reputation: Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not
regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
Paul's letter to the Philippians congregation is heavy on Paul's heart. And he is letting them know he was sending Epaphroditus for his own sake because of the worrisome lot they were to him, yet very close to his heart. Paul had sent Epaphroditus earlier only to receive him back near unto death. Paul wrote: Epaphroditus disregarded his life to supply your lack of service toward me. Ouch.
Do you know people who continually take until they almost kill you. Are you there now, perhaps listening to them in the background complaining and opposing you? Or are you one of them, always taking in the teachings but never giving, never helping?
Help! And, so, hopefully you run back to the LORD and He ministers life, first aide, to you through his body and his blood, through his Spirit and his Truth, until he is ready to "send you out" once again. Right back into the very thing that almost killed you before, but this time, with the bluntness of true and godly friendship we make a difference through our early morning prayer time with Jesus. And, in love and supplication, we make our request know to God with thanksgiving, and he always brings us peace and then we tell our friends truth in love, just like Paul did here with the brothers at Philippi.
And we look at Epaphroditus, who stepped back into the Philippian congregation with the same drive he had in the beginning. And we desire to be like-minded as we move and breath and have our being in Jesus Christ our LORD and as we minister one to another in charity. Amen and Amen
